Looking back, it's easy to connect the dots, but the truth is my professional aspiration was never to be a financial advisor. It wasn't until a personal need arose that I realized my true vocation. While still early in my corporate finance career as a CPA with Deloitte, I lost my mother to ovarian cancer and my world changed in ways I never could have imagined. As the "financial one" in the family, my siblings looked to me for guidance on what to do and who to trust with their new inheritance. Not knowing much about this myself, I began reading and researching, hoping to learn enough to evaluate the plethora of advisors out there and determine who to work with. Now that I work in the profession, I know many intelligent and trustworthy advisors, but at the time I was so discouraged with my options that I decided I would just need to learn it all myself. So that’s exactly what I did!

My research turned into a passion for financial planning and investing, so I left my budding career as a corporate CPA and joined a well-respected wealth management firm in Palo Alto. After deciding to move to the Midwest to be closer to family, my wife (and now business partner) Mary encouraged me to start my own firm—an opportunity to pursue the business and personal life I had envisioned during my own financial life planning process! Since then, I’ve been helping clients navigate their financial lives and encouraging them to enjoy it along the way.

While I’ve come to understand that one’s life aspirations should be at the heart of every financial plan, I still believe the underlying financial strategies must rest on a solid technical foundation. So, in my “free time,” you’ll find me immersed in researching everything I can on a variety of financial topics affecting my clients; speaking at national conferences and universities; and elevating the profession by mentoring other young advisors and serving on committees of professional organizations.

I initially became interested in financial planning because of my husband David, Laminar Wealth’s founder. My background is in biochemistry, so I was surprised to find myself engaged in all aspects of the business as David started the firm in 2013, and for better or worse, topics of financial planning have dominated our dinner conversations ever since.

While living in Chicago, David encouraged me to take courses at Northwestern University where I earned a Certificate of Financial Planning. When we moved to St. Louis to be closer to my family, I joined a prominent local wealth management firm where I discovered my real passion for the profession. Financial planning allows me to use my intelligence, creative problem-solving skills, and big heart to positively impact others’ lives. I was excited to join Laminar Wealth in the spring of 2017, bringing my energy and expertise to connect with the community and help my clients lead richer lives.

I’m happy to be raising my family in my hometown of St. Louis (for those of you wanting to ask, I’m a proud alumnus of Cor Jesu Academy!). When not working, you’ll find me catching up on the latest seasons of Homeland or House of Cards, curled up with our two cats Sassafras and Lily, walking our golden retriever Hana, chasing around our young daughter Ellie, or debating financial planning strategies with David!
